Brittany Spears and other rants

My heart goes out to Brittany and the Spears family. This morning I was watching the news and all they could talk about was Brittany being sent to the hospital. I started yelling at the TV "Please leave her alone!!!!!!!" It disgusts me that her problems are adding a 100 million boost to our economy. Come on.

When I was ordained I chose the 1 Cor. 13 to be read because it eloquently states how I go about my life in the mission of loving my neighbor as I love myself. This includes "love does not delight in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth."

Come on people, there are people dying on our streets. We are in the middle of an unjust war. Our economy has tanked. Our enviroment is being destroyed by us. Can't we stop obsessing about a celebratie's breakdown and put our energy towards solving the world's problems.

Happy Anniversary

Wow, one year of ordained ministry, it has gone by so fast. I look back on this year with all it's ups and downs and for the most part it has been a good year. Ministry is hard and easy. It is paradoxical in a lot of ways. Out of all the jobs that I have done in my life this is the work that has given me the most joy and yet this is the work that has broken my heart the most. I feel so privileged that God chose me to do God's work as an ordained minister. The song that keeps going through my head as I reflect on my year in ministry is the cantical of the turning. It is inspired by Mary's Magnificat which was the scripture that my ordination liturgy centered on.

My soul cries out with a joyful shout that the God of my heart is great,
And my spirit sings of the wondrous things that you bring to the ones who wait.
You fixed your sight on the servant's plight, and my weakness you did not spurn,

Friday Five

What book have you read in the last six months that has really stayed with you? Why?
I just finished the Kite Runner and that book has really stuck with me. It is an incredible story about a friendship between two boys with the backdrop of the political situation of Afghanistan since the 1980's. The theme of redemption and grace is what really struck me.

What is one of your favorite childhood books?
The Anne of Green Gables series. I still own the series that I recieved as a gift from when I was 12 or 13. She was and still is an inspiration to me. A girl who overcame her issues of abandenment and not fitting in to spark transformation for herself and those who know her.

Do you have a favorite book of the Bible? Do tell!
The book of Esther is my all time Bible fav. A woman who is put in the right place at the right time by the will of God.

What is one book you could read again and again?Southern Discomfort by Rita Mae Brown. So much going on in such a little town. That book is laugh out loud funny. I saw the author at a book signing and I asked her how she could keep so many story lines simultaniously in one book she said, "That's just life in the South honey."

Is there a book you would suggest for Lenten reading? What is it and why?
"Calmly Plotting the Resurrection." by Donna Schaper. I am reading it because it is all about gardening and I can't wait to start my garden again in the spring.
